Rating poll: stars, scores and points
Sometimes a single vote says too little. In a rating poll each person gives every option a score, so you learn not only which option wins but by how much, and where opinions differ.
How it works
- Add the options: talks, dishes, products, ideas or photos.
- Pick a scale (1-5, 1-10, 0-10, 1-3, 1-7 or 0-100) and how it is shown: stars, numbers, a slider or faces. You can name both ends, for example "poor" and "excellent".
- Share the link. Each person rates the options.
- The results list the options by their average score, with the median, the lowest and the highest score and how many people gave each score.
Share out points
Switch on points and everyone gets a budget, for example 100 points, to spread over the options: all on one, or split as they like. This shows how much people care, not just what they prefer, which makes it good for setting priorities or dividing a budget. The results show the total points of each option.
How the result is counted
With a scale, the options are ordered by their average score, and the number of ratings breaks a tie. The median shows the middle opinion, which a few extreme scores cannot pull up or down, and the distribution shows how many people gave each score. With points, the options are ordered by their total.
Settings you can use
- One answer per browser (the default), per internet address, per account or per personal invitation.
- Anonymous ratings, or names that only you see.
- Results visible at any time, after rating, after the poll closes, or only to you.
- Pictures on the options, a shuffled order, a deadline and a password.
- An export of all scores to a spreadsheet (CSV) or JSON.
Good for
Feedback on the talks at a conference (the Rate the talks template), tasting a menu, judging a contest, comparing product ideas, or a team's priorities with Share out 100 points. To put the options in a strict order instead, use ranked-choice voting.
